- Photographic intention: This image was produced as a control condition image to provide a baseline for comparison with the variable condition image. Bilateral direct softbox lighting was used to record the overall outline and surface under a consistent and evenly illuminated arrangement.
- Problem recognition: The bilateral symmetrical lighting reduced tonal contrast and minimised shadow formation. As a result, the irregular rim, the depth of the inner and outer curves, the subtle curvature of the vessel wall, and the rough surface texture appeared relatively flat.
- Adjustment process: No corrective adjustment was applied. The bilateral softbox arrangement, direct incident light, and approximately 1 m lighting distance were retained so that the image could function as the control condition.
- Visual observation: The overall form remains visible, but the irregular rim and asymmetrical profile are weakly articulated. The inner and outer curves show limited depth, while the roughness and fine grain of the surface appear visually flattened by the even illumination.
- Interpretive significance: This image demonstrates that bright and even illumination can still conceal form-related and material information. Without paradata, the reduced depth and surface roughness may be mistaken for properties of the object rather than effects produced by symmetrical lighting.
